The Art

Contemporary Southwestern artists are center stage at the Windflower – The Hill Country Spa.  The gallery-style arcade features the infra-red pictures of San Antonio photographer Pat Marince. He has won more than 345 major local, regional, national and international awards for his work in various media.

Above the desk in the reception area is a spectacular quilt by Arizona artist Darcy Falk. The quilt, “Windmill”, toured with the international exhibit “Quilt National, '97".  Falk is nationally recognized as an adventurous and expressive fabric artist.

In the waiting area, next to the juice bar, is a piece by Galveston, Texas photographer Anne Stautberg.  She is known for her large-format black-and-white photographs accented with hand-tinting. Her work is in the collections of the Dallas Art Museum, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Museum of Fine Arts – Houston, as well as many private collections.

In the salon are three black-and-white photographs by Beaumont, Texas photographer Keith Carter.  Carter takes pictures of his own “home place” and has become one of the most popular and respected photographers from the South.  His photographs are included in many private collections and museums, including The Art Institute of Chicago and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

The close-up photography of Irwin Lightstone is displayed in the women’s lounge.  Lightstone, a Dallas lawyer is president of The Texas Cactus & Succulents Society.  As a photographer he specializes in meticulous close-ups of cactus flowers.

Also in the women’s lounge and the halls to the treatment rooms are the nature photographs of Charles Kruvand who lives in Austin, Texas. The photographs represent a moment in time from the Uvalde Hill Country to the East Texas Lakes.  His work is in the collections of Frito-Lay, Texas Instruments, and Mobil Oil.

In the men’s lounge is “Black Dog,” by California artist Ashley Collins.  This artist creates collages of American memorabilia  and then paints a graphic image with oils.  Her work is in the collections of The Eitaljorg Museum, 20th Century Fox, Brillstein-Grey Entertainment as well as many private collections.

The far hall to the treatment rooms is the “Windmill Hall."  The windmill, the Resort’s icon, is a familiar subject in Texas art.  These studies were captured by San Antonian Pat Marince and shot throughout Texas, including the resort grounds.

The philosophy of Windflower-The Hill Country Spa is to create and accent the visual environment, providing a more authentic experience for visitors.  The choices reflect a love of the creativity and beauty of Texas.
